SAFETY & SECURITY POLICY |
| SAFETY It is our policy to ensure the safety of all children and workers that are a part of the Carpenter's Shop ministry. Before, during, and immediately after classes, all workers are responsible for supervising all children that are present. If they see a situation that may lead to injury, (i.e., running, horseplay, fighting, improper use of furniture or supplies, etc.) they are responsible for stepping in and taking control of the situation immediately. In case of an injury, workers are responsible for administering first-aid to the best of their abilities. If the injury is severe, or goes beyond the scope of their knowledge, a registered nurse in the church is to be notified immediately as well as the Sunday School Director. They will then make the decision if emergency services are necessary. It is the policy of this ministry to have as many of the workers as possible certified in CPR and basic First-Aid. Workers that have these certifications are noted on their name tags. Lights must be on at all times in all rooms, hallways, restrooms, and the kitchen. Both exits in the fellowship hall are required to be unlocked at all times. In case of fire, or if one of the alarms goes off, workers are to calmly take their classes to the nearest exit and have the children line up outside away from the building. Instructions will be given to the workers when it is safe to return to classes. In case of natural disaster, workers are responsible for giving direction to children to maintain order, and to help prevent injuries. In the case of building damage, and if it is safer to do so, workers are to calmly take their classes to the nearest exit and have the children line up outside away from the building.
All worker's are screened and must be personally known to the Sunday School Director. All new workers must fill out a Volunteer Application', be interviewed, and consent to screening. There shall never be less than 2 workers in the room with children at any time, in the Babies and Pre-School Classes. Teenagers and adults that are not volunteers are not to be in any of the classes or other areas being used by the Carpenter's Shop unless known by and invited in by a worker for a specific purpose in the Carpenter's Shop (i.e., visit by a parent, help needed with a special project, etc.). All entrances are to be kept under supervision by department heads. Any suspicious activity is to be reported to the Sunday School Director immediately. The following items may NOT be brought into any classes by workers or anyone else at any time: guns, projectile weapons of any kind, illegal drugs, alcohol, live animals, toys or items relating to magic, mace or pepper spray (except security), hazardous or explosive materials, other items that may be considered inappropriate and/or dangerous to life or property. The following items may NOT be brought into any classes by workers or anyone else without permission from the Sunday School Director: prescription drugs, knives, swords or other sharp weapons (used for visuals), other items which might be considered inappropriate or dangerous. |
